TEATR WEIMAR
Sweden

Teatr Weimar is the leading performing arts collective in Sweden with the base in Malmö, in the very south of Sweden. Teatr Weimar consist of playwrights, dramaturgs, researchers, directors, actors, technicians, musicians and set designers who explore the boundaries and expressions of contemporary performing art. Artistic director is Jörgen Dahlqvist.

Teatr Weimar´s work stretches from traditional theatre to more conceptual performances in co-operation with artists from other diciplines, always with language, power and identity as subjects in their artistic work. Teatr Weimar are in the forefront of artistic research and development in theatre in Sweden and are connected to the Malmö Theatre Academy and Inter Arts Center at Lund University.

Teatr Weimar also organizes lectures and readings, publishes books and scripts and continues working on soundscapes and radio material under the name of Radiowy. Together with Ensemble Ars Nova, they have started a project called SONAT (Sonic Art Theatre) combining performing art with contemporary electro-acoustic music and live-electronics. Teatr Weimar has thus cooperated with many of Sweden´s big theatre institutions; The Royal Dramatic Theatre, Stockholm Theatre and Malmö Theatre to mention a few. Their productions have been elected to different National Theatre Congresses in Sweden as best performances and they also have toured Sweden with different performances. Their work has also been broadcasted by Swedish Television. They have made guest performances at The Ibsen Festival in Norway, The International Theatre Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia, Lokal Theatre Festival in Iceland, Hangö Theatre Festival in Finland the last couple of years. During 2011 and 2012 they are going to tour more extensively outside Sweden.
