Together with Valdimar Johannsson, musician and composer, Erna Omarsdottir tells in this work the story of the first, the last and the only ever existing cowboy in Iceland. Hallbjorn Hjartarsson and »Countrybaer«, a tiny country heaven he created in the north, in a tiny village called Skagastrond. He was a true man of adventures and a passionate dreamer. He made his dream come true... Fascinated by storytelling and the storyteller character, Erna Omarsdottir continues, after the creation of »The Talking Tree«, to let the situation of dance and dance impros be the inspiration for a storytelling moment and vice versa. In this case, the sand and the ocean are as well the inspiration for dance and storytelling; looking for ways to combine storytelling to a dance situation and let them influence each other, back and forth.
The dancer and choreographer Erna Omarsdottir is one of Iceland’s most interesting and successful artists and for a number of years she has been well established on the international scene. Her collaborators include Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Les Ballets C de la B and Jan Fabre, and four times in a row she has been recognised as an outstanding performer by the magazine Tanz. In 2008 she had a short residency at the K3 Centre for Choreography in Kampnagel.
