»I shall hang myself to the sound of my lover‘s breathing« wrote the exceptionally talented playwright Sarah Kane and committed suicide at the age of 28. With great poetical force, 4:48 PSYCHOSIS revolves around the thoughts of a depressive and suicidal mind. 4:48 is the predicted time of death. The feeling that body and soul are divided and will never again be united as a complete person is a recurrent theme. In this condition, perhaps, suicide is a relief.
This performance became Trine Dyrholm‘s great breakthrough as a character actor, who in Thomas Vinterberg‘s »The Celebration« became known to a wider audience. With an enormous physical and mental presence she achieved a pure and unsentimental defence of the split mind, its inclination towards suicide and, at the same time, its hope of somehow avoiding it.
Holland House is a private institution established in 1988 by Jacob F. Schokking and Ane Mette Ruge. In the past two decades Holland House has created a string of critically acclaimed plays and operas with a strong visual expression. On the occasion of the Kirkegaard year in 2013 Roland Schimmelpfennig currently writes a play about Soren Kirkegaard for Holland House.
